Chad Mendes won his fourth straight fight by knockout as he defeated Clay Guida on the main card of UFC 164.
During the first round, Mendes was able to get a takedown that led to him attempting a guillotine choke. Guida was able to scramble out of the submission and get back to his feet.
They would continue to strike before Mendes would get the fight back to the ground in the final minute. The fight would remain on the ground until the end of the round with Mendes in control.
Between rounds, Guida’s corner told him to be more active and he did this as he attempted to get the fight to the ground. However, Mendes was able to defend the attempts and he took Guida down. While on the ground, Mendes was able to get the back of Guida but could not get any submissions. The round ended with the fighters on the feet and Guida struggled to land any significant strikes.
The end of the fight would come early in the third round when Mendes landed a combination against the fence and he becomes the first fighter to defeat Guida by knockout.
