Rafael dos Anjos keep his winning streak going on Wednesday night in Indianapolis as he defeated Donald Cerrone by unanimous decision in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 27.
In the opening round, they spent the first half of the round exchanging strikes and Dos Anjos connected with a right hook that hurt Cerrone and the fight moved to the ground. While on his back, Cerrone looked for a triangle choke submission but Dos Anjos was able to escape.
Dos Anjos would remain in top position and he landed several short elbows from the top position. They would remain in this position for the rest of the round with Dos Anjos landing several punches.
They would continue their striking battle at the start of the second round before Cerrone took the fight to the ground with three minuted left in the round. While on the ground, Cerrone was able to pass and looked for an arm in guillotine choke. The submission was unsuccessful and the fight moved back to the feet.
After a brief striking battle, Dos Anjos took the fight back to the ground and it would remand their for the rest of the round. Dos Anjos was able to land his strikes as Cerrone looked for a triangle choke submission.
In the final round, Cerrone began to use more of his leg kicks and targeting the body of Dos Anjos. Cerrone opened up a cut near the left eye of Dos Anjos and he appeared to becoming more confident. Dos Anjos looked for several takedowns, but the attempts were unsuccessful.
The fight would be decided by the judges and all three judges scored the fight for Dos Anjos (20-6) who has now won five fights in a row with four of the wins coming by decision.
