UFC Fight Night 27 Result: Roger Bowling and Abel Trujillo declared a no contest after an unintentional illegal knee

The opening preliminary bout of UFC Fight Night 27 was a lighweight bout as Roger Bowling and Abel Trujillo squared off and the bout was declared a no contest after Trujillo landed an unintentional illegal knee.Fight Night 30

As the fight opened, Bowling landed the first punch and the fighters being to swing away with Bowling nearly dropping Trujillo. Trujillo would counter the punches of Bowling and he landed a significant strike that had Bowling backing out of the pocket.

After an exchange of strikes, Bowling looked for a takedown and ended up slamming Trujillo to the mat. Trujillo was able to get back to his feet quickly and they continued to have a striking battle.

The action would move to the ground with Trujillo having the dominate position. Bowling would get back to his feet and ended up going for a guillotine choke. After being unable to get the choke, he adjusted his position but would end up running out of time as the round came to an end.

In the second round, Bowling attempted to get the fight to the ground in the opening minute and the fight was briefly on the ground. Trujillo was able to get back to his feet and both fighters appeared to be fatigued.

They would once again get into a brawl with each fighter connecting with punches and Bowling would take the fight to the ground. Trujillo was able to get back to his feet and move away from Bowling. After exchanging strikes for a minute, Bowling took the fight to the ground and went for a rear-naked choke.

As Trujillo was able to escape the submission attempt, Bowling had his knee on the ground and Trujillo threw two knees. The first knee hit Bowling in the chest, but the second knee hit the chin of Bowling which is an illegal strike. Referee Rob Hinds told Trujillo that the strike was illegal and would be deducting a point from him.

After hinds told Trujillo he would be deducting a point from him, the cage side doctor called the fight after evaluating Bowling. Hinds declared the bout a no contest instead of disqualifying him.
