A welterweight bout has been added to next month’s World Series of Fighting 6 event in Florida as Jon Fitch will meet Marcelo Alfaya.
World Series of Fighting officials recently announced the bout and it will be one of the fights on the main card broadcast on the NBC Sports Network.
World Series of Fighting 6 will take place on October 26th from the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Florida and will be headline by Josh Burkman meeting Steve Carl for the inaugural WSOF welterweight title.
“We’re very excited to announce the addition of Marcelo Alfaya vs. Jon Fitch to our Oct. 26 event in Florida,” World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo said. “Jon’s track record in the sport speaks for itself, and Marcelo is an 11-year MMA veteran who has been waiting for an opportunity like this. When you add this fight to the lineup we’ve already announced for the evening, this card has all the potential to be our best night of fights yet.”
Fitch (24-6-1, 1NC) has lost three of his last four fights including his submission lost to Burkman in his debut with WSOF. His last win took place at UFC 153 last year against Erick Silva and is 1-3-1 in his last five fights.
Alfaya (15-6, 1NC) is a former Bellator fighter and he has won three in a row since losing to Jake Ellenberger at Bellator 11 in 2009. He is coming off a knockout win over Valdir Araujo at the beginning of the year and this will be the first time that he fights more than once in a year since 2009.
