UFC 165 Result: Francis Carmont dominates Costa Philippou and wins by unanimous decision

Francis Carmont won his sixth straight fight on Saturday night at UFC 165 as he dominated Costa Philippou to win by unanimous decision.UFC 165

At the beginning of the fight, they exchange leg kicks before Carmont took the fight to the mat. He worked his ground game with his strikes and passed to various positions including the north-south position. While on his back, Philippou attempted to secure several submissions but Carmont was able to escape and keep the fight on the ground.

Carmont wasted little time in getting the fight back to the ground at the beginning of the second round. Carmont would be able to keep the fight on the ground for the first half of the round before referee John McCarthy stood the fighters up due to the lack of action. Carmont would get the fight back to the ground and kept the fight there for the remainder of the round.

The first minute of the final round would be a stand up battle but Carmont took the fight to the ground at the one minute mark of the round. Carmont landed multiple strikes and Philippou attempted a guillotine choke in the half guard position. The attempt was unsuccessful and Carmont was able to keep the fight on the mat and work his way towards a decision victory.

All three judges scored the fight for Carmont with the scores being 30-27, 30-27 and 30-26.
