In a battle of strikers, Stephen Thompson won his second straight fight in the UFC as he defeated Chris Clements by knockout in the second round.
In the opening five minutes, a majority of the fight was on the feet with Thompson throwing his kicks to the legs and the head of Clements. Clements would be able to time the kicks of Thompson and land counter strikes.
The fight would go to the ground when Clements slipped when he was attempting to throw a kick. He would be able to limit the damage while on the bottom and get back to his feet. Thompson would score a takedown at the end of the round and the fight moved into the second round.
In the opening thirty seconds of the second round, Thompson landed a combination that dropped Clements but could not get a finish. Clements would get back to feet but Thompson would land another combination that dropped Clements and referee John McCarthy came in to stop the fight.
Thompson (8-1) has won back to back fights in the UFC and has gone 3-1 overall in the organization. Two of his three wins have come by knockout in the UFC with his other one coming in his UFC debut last year.
