The UFC will be making their annual trip to Australia on December 7th for UFC Fight Night 33 and the card will be headlined by Antonio Silva meeting Mark Hunt in a scheduled five round heavyweight bout.
UFC officials made the event official on Monday morning and the event will take place from the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
While the event will take place on Saturday, December 7th in Australia, the fight card will be live in the United States on December 6th due to the time difference.
“Our long term commitment is to bring our sport, our athletes and our brand to as many cities across Australia as possible,” said Tom Wright, UFC Director of Operations in Australia, New Zealand and Canada. “Brisbane will represent the third city in Australia where we’ve hosted an event and we’re all very excited to be bringing an amazing card to our fans this December.”
Hunt (9-8) is coming off a decision lost to former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos at UFC 160 and the defeat snapped a four fight winning streak. He won the fight of the night bonus with Dos Santos and it was the third time in his UFC career that he was awarded a fight night bonus.
Silva (18-5) was also on the UFC 160 card and he was defeated by UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez in the main event. The defeat snapped a two fight winning streak, which included a knockout win over Alistair Overeem at UFC 156 in February.
Tickets for UFC Fight Night 33: Hunt vs. Silva will go on sale October 10th and more fights will be announced by the UFC in the coming weeks.
