A welterweight bout has been added to UFC Fight Night 33 in Australia on December 7th as The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes winner Robert Whittaker will meet Brian Melancon.
UFC officials announced the fight booking on Wednesday evening after the bout was reported by the Australian website MMA Kanvas.
UFC Fight Night 33 will take place from the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in on December 7th in Australia and will be headlined by Mark Hunt meeting Antonio Silva in a heavyweight bout.
The event will air live in the United States on December 6th, due to the time difference between United States and Australia.
Whittaker (11-3) opened his UFC career with back to back victories including a decision win over Brad Scott to win The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes welterweight tournament. His last appearance in the octagon came at UFC Fight Night 27 in August and he was defeated by Court McGee.
Melancon (7-3) won his UFC debut earlier this year at UFC 162 against Seth Baczynski by knockout in the first round. He returned at UFC Fight Night 27 and was defeated in the first round by submission against Ultimate Fighter 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum.
