UFC 169 is now official for February 1st in Newark, New Jersey at the Prudential Center with the main card on pay-per-view being headlined by Jon Jones defending the UFC light heavyweight title against Glover Teixiera.
UFC officials confirmed the the fight card on Thursday after it was reported by Newsday.
Jones (19-1) is coming off his sixth straight light heavyweight title defense with a decision victory over Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 in Toronto last month.
Teixeira (22-2) is currently on a twenty fight winning streak and five of those victories have come in the UFC. His most recent victory came last month at UFC Fight Night 28 against Ryan Bader by TKO in the first round.
Along with officially announcing the event and the title fight, it was also revealed that the co-main event would be a heavyweight bout as former Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem will meet former UFC champion Frank Mir.
Overeem and Mir were initially scheduled to face each other at UFC 167 on November 16th in Las Vegas. According to the Newsday report, the UFC and the Nevada State Athletic Commission decided that it was a good idea to postpone the bout since both fighters are coming off knockout defeats.
More fight bookings and ticket information will be announced for this fight card in the coming weeks.
