Chris Cariaso earned his first stoppage victory in the UFC as he defeated Iliarde Santos by TKO in the second round on the UFC Fight Night 29 preliminary card.
At the beginning of the fight, Cariaso threw several kicks but Santos was able to defend the kicks. Santos would end up taking the fight to the mat against the cage and had the mount position for a brief moment.
He would lose the position but he was able to keep the fight on the ground. He would transition to the back of Cariaso and looked for various submissions. Cariaso would be able to defend the submissions and work his way back to his feet.
They would continue there striking battle with Santos landing the more significant strikes and would take the fight to the ground as the round came to a conclusion.
Cariaso opened the second round by throwing multiple kicks to set up his punches. After about a minute of exchanging punches, Cariaso landed a left hand that stunned Santos and he took the fight to the ground.
Santos would be able to get back to his feet and land a knee. However, he appeared to be slowing down and may have still been hurt from the punches Cariaso landed earlier in the round. Cariaso would land several right hands during an exchange and Santos would end up falling to the ground. He would get the finish to the fight with strikes on the ground when referee Keith Peterson came in to call the fight.
The victory for Cariaso (15-5) snaps a two fight losing streak and this is his first victory since his decision win over Josh Ferguson at UFC on FUEL TV 4.
