UFC Fight Night 29 Result: Raphael Assuncao wins close split decision against TJ Dillashaw

The opening fight of the UFC Fight Night 29 main card was a battle of top ten UFC bantamweights as Raphael Assuncao defeated TJ Dillashaw by split decision. UFC Fight Night 29 Brazil Poster

They opened the fight by exchanging strikes and Dillashaw was able to get a takedown in the first 90 seconds. It was the first time that Assuncao had been taken down in his UFC career. The fight would not say on the ground long as Assuncao was able to get back to his feet.

Dillashaw would land a head kick and Assuncao would eat the kick. Dillashaw would end up grabbing the back of Assuncao and attempted a rear-naked choke. Assuncao would escape the submission and get back to his feet. They would stay on the feet for the remainder of the round and the fight moved into the second round.

In the second round, they had a striking battle for the first three minutes of the round before Dillashaw went for a takedown. As he went for the takedown, Assuncao put his hands around the neck and attempted a guillotine choke. Dillashaw would be able to escape the submission and get back to his feet.

Dillashaw would get the fight to the ground in the final minute of the round but Assuncao was able to get to his feet with 30 seconds left in the round. They would remain on the feet for the rest of the round with the fight tied up heading into the final round.

They continued there striking battle in the third round with Dillashaw coming forward. Assuncao attempted a single leg takedown, but Dillashaw was able to stop the attempt and keep the fight on the feet.

In the final minute of the fight, Assuncao looked to take the fight to the ground. However, he could not get the fight to the ground and they would exchange strikes as the final bell sounded.

Two of the three judges scoring the fight would score it for Assunacao (21-4) and he has now won five fights in a row in the UFC bantamweight division.
