Andreas Spang and Ryan Ford have been released from their contracts with Bellator MMA and are now unrestrictive free agents.
Bellator MMA confirmed the releases with TheMMAReport.com on Tuesday evening.
Spang (8-3) made his debut in Bellator last year when he was a replacement in the season six middleweight tournament semifinals. He would advance to the final of the tournament, but was defeated by Maiquel Falcao. He receive a spot in the following middleweight tournament during season eight and exited the tournament in the opening round when he was defeated by eventual tournament winner Doug Marshall.
He was then scheduled to be in the season nine tournament, but was pulled from the tournament on the day of the weigh-ins when the commission declared him ineligible to compete. He has not competed in a fight since his lost to Marshall and recently tweeted that he planned on moving up in weight to the light heavyweight division.
Ford (21-4) signed with Bellator in 2012 and won both of his fights in the organization. His last fight in Bellator took place in November of last year at Bellator 79 when he defeated Kyle Baker by unanimous decision. That would be the last time he stepped into the Bellator cage due to visa issues that does not allow him to leave Canada.
Since his last Bellator fight, he has won two fights in the Canadian promotion, Aggression Fighting Championships. He won the AFC welterweight title in his last fight as he submitted Michael Hill in the fifth round. The AFC was recently purchased by the World Series of Fighting and several of their fighters are expected to compete for the WSOF in the future.
