Ultimate Fighter 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum was scheduled to meet Court McGee next month at UFC on FOX 9, but an injury has forced him off the fight card and the UFC is looking for a new opponent for McGee.
The news of the injury was initially reported by MMAJunkie.com and Gastelum confirmed the report on Monday morning.
Gastelum wrote on Twitter that he torn his PCL will be out four to six weeks. The injury will not require surgery and he is expected back in the UFC early next year.
UFC on FOX 9 takes place on December 14th in Sacramento and will be headlined by Demetrious Johnson defending the UFC flyweight title against Joseph Benavidez in a rematch of their 2012 bout.
Gastelum (7-0) is one of the youngest fighters currently in the UFC and he defeated Uriah Hall earlier this year to win The Ultimate Fighter 17 as a middleweight. After the fight, he dropped down to the welterweight division and defeated Brian Melancon by submission in the first round at UFC Fight Night 27.
With UFC on FOX 9 being one month away, it’s unknown if the UFC will be looking to still have McGee fight on the card or move him to another event.
