Rustam Khabilov remained undefeated in the UFC as he defeated Jorge Masvidal by unanimous decision on the main card of UFC Fight Night 31. 
As the fight opened, Khabilov landed a right hand that pushed Masvidal back and a majority of the opening round was on the feet. After exchanging strikes in the center of the cage, they clinched against the fence with Khabilov in the better position.
Masvidal started to find his range in the second half of the opening round as he was able to stop the takedown attempts of Khabilov. As the round came to a conclusion, Masvidal landed a pair of strikes and the fight moved into the second round.
They continued to have their striking battle in the second round with Khabilov throwing multiple overhand rights. He would not be able to connect with that strike and Masvisal landed a takedown with 90 seconds left in the round.
Khabilov would get back to his feet with just over a minute left in the round and separate from Masvidal. Khabilov would close the distance and latched onto the back of Masvidal. He did get the fight to the ground for a moment, but could not mount any offense. Masvidal would be able to separate from Khabilov and the fight moved into the final round.
The biggest strike of the fight would take place in the first half of the final round as Khabilov landed a spinning back kick. The strike stunned Masvidal and he went into survival mode. Khabilov went for a submission to end the fight, but Masvidal was able to survive.
After an exchange of strikes, Masvidal tried a spinning back kick but Khabilov caught the kick and the fight went to the ground. Masvidal defended any potential submission attempts and the fight went back to the feet. Once again, Khabilov was able to get the fight to the ground and he would land multiple strikes on the ground before the final bell sounded.
All three judges scored the fight for Khabilov (17-1) and he is now 3-0 in the UFC. His previous UFC wins came by TKO/KO and he now has eight wins coming by way of decision. Masvidal (25-8) drops his first fight in the UFC and his last four defeats have come by decision.
