Legacy FC 26 Results: Leonard Garcia wins featherweight title

In San Antonio, Texas, Legacy Fighting Championship returned with it’s 26th show as UFC/WEC veteran Leonard Garcia returned to form with a first round knockout over rising featherweight prospect Kevin Aguilar to win the Legacy FC featherweight title. LEGACY-26-Leonard-Garcia-vs.-Kevin-Aguilar-640x360-

Garcia controlled the pace of the fight, constantly pushing forward, until he was able to rock Aguilar with a thunderous right hook. Sensing the finish, Garcia pounced on Aguilar with punches on the ground that prompted the referee to call a stop to the action.

The finish was foreshadowed by some of the bout’s earlier exchanges. It was Garcia who continued to step forward causing Aguilar to evade the strikes by circling out to the left. In the concluding moments of the fight, Garcia caught on to Aguilar’s trend and connected cleanly with his strike as Aguilar circled out to the left.

It was the second time in Garcia’s (18-11-1) career that he knocked out an opponent in a span of three fights, and the win marks his third consecutive victory since being released by the UFC. This loss will go down as the first blemish on the record of Kevin Aguilar (8-1).

Almeida stuns Pacurariu with a first round TKO
The stock of Thomas de Almeida as a featherweight prospect rose dramatically in the night’s co-main event as he finished fellow up-and-comer George Pacurariu with a pair of uppercuts and a left hook in the first frame.

Prior to the stoppage, Pacurariu controlled the round with a stand-up display that included a stiff jab, a left that knocked Almeida down, and a punishing overhand. Nevertheless, it was the finishing exchange of punches that spelled the end of the fight for Pacurariu.

Almeida (15-0) has now finished his last nine opponents with strikes inside the first two rounds. This is the second straight LFC loss for Pacurariu (5-3) who started his career in the organization with a win over Steven Peterson.

Pecero finishes Rodriguez with ground and pound in the first
It was a short night of work for Chris Pecero. Pecero took Raynaldo Rodriguez down with a single leg in the early moments of the period and immediately went to work with an unrelenting barrage of ground and pound, until the fight was stopped.

From the top position, Pecero transitioned from punches to elbows en route to the first round victory. The fight was contested at a 150 pound catchweight.

Chris Pecero (10-5) improves to 2-0 in Legacy Fighting with his second straight TKO victory, whereas Rodriguez (4-3) regresses to 0-2 in the promotion with the loss.

Ybarra utilizes wrestling to defeat Rodriguez with a clear decision
In the first and third rounds, Patrick Ybarra was able to take down Ray Rodriguez at will as he coasted to a unanimous decision win. Ybarra scored the majority of his takedowns by pushing his opponent against the cage and working him down to the ground with second and third efforts that followed the initial takedown attempt.

Aside from a few submission attempts, those two periods undoubtedly belonged to Ybarra. The victor of the second round was more debatable as Rodriguez was able to stuff a takedown, bring the fight to the ground, and attempt an armbar submission. Ybarra was able to posture out of the armbar and end the round in the top position.

Ybarra (6-1) returned to the winners circle after being knocked out by Damacio Page at LFC 20. The loss is Rodriguez’s (3-2) second in his past three outings. Two of the judges scored the fight 30-27 for Ybarra, while the other judge had it 29-28.

Buch and Ivy victorious to start the card
In a back-and-forth contest, Billy Buch (5-2) secured the victory over Ryan Hollis (4-4) by taking the latter two rounds thanks to superior striking, time spent in advantageous positions, and takedowns. The first round was fairly close as each fighter traded takedowns, but Hollis ended the round strong with a pair of triangle and armbar submission attempts.

Dimitre Ivy (3-2) submitted Matt Mazurek (2-3) in the second period with an armbar. Ivy ended up with Mazurek’s back in the round amidst a grappling scramble against the cage, and eventually transitioned to the fight-ending submission.
