A welterweight bout has been added to the UFC 170 fight card in Las Vegas as Stephen Thompson will meet Robert Whittaker.
The fight booking was initially reported by Marc Raimondi of FoxSports.com and the UFC confirmed the bout on Wednesday evening.
UFC 170 takes place from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on February 22nd and will be headlined by a light heavyweight bout as Rashad Evans meets Daniel Cormier.
Thompson (8-1) made his debut in the UFC last year and won the knockout of the night bonus in his debut against Dan Stittgen at UFC 143. Following a defeat against Matt Brown at UFC 145, he has won back to back fights and is coming off a TKO victory at UFC 165 against Chris Clements.
Whittaker (11-3) opened his UFC career by winning The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes and followed up that victory by defeating Colton Smith by TKO at UFC 160. His last appearance inside the octagon came at UFC Fight Night 27 in August and he was defeated by split decision against Court McGee.
