The UFC announced earlier this week that UFC on FOX 11 will take place from the Amway Center in Orlando on April 19th and one of the fights announced for the card is a heavyweight title eliminator fight as Travis Browne faces Fabricio Werdum.
In the announcement of the fight card, the UFC said that the main event for the fight card would be announced shortly and many people suggested that the card may end up being headlined by a title fight.
However, UFC President Dana White stated at his UFC Fight Night 35 Post Fight Media Scrum that the Browne-Werdum fight may end up being the main event of the April 19th card in Orlando.
“He are still building the card,” White said. “It’s a big fight. The winner of that fight, fights the heavyweight champion [Cain Velasquez] for the title.”
Browne (16-1-1) is currently on a three fight winning streak and all three wins have come by knockout in the first round. He has won the knockout of the night bonus in all of those fights and defeated Josh Barnett in sixty seconds at last month’s UFC 168.
Werdum (17-5-1) has also won three fights in a row since returning to the UFC in 2012. His last two wins have come by stoppage and his most recent victory came at UFC on FUEL TV 10 as he submitted Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
The only other bout that has been announced for UFC on FOX 11 is a women’s bantamweight bout as former Strikeforce champion Miesha Tate meets Liz Carmouche.
The UFC will be announcing more details on this event in the coming weeks and tickets are expected to go on sale February 14th.
