The fight booking was confirmed by the UFC on Monday and it’s likely this bout will be placed on the preliminary card.

UFC 173 will come from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will be headlined by Chris Weidman defending the UFC middleweight title against Vitor Belfort.

Varner (21-9-1 2NC) has lost back to back fights and is coming off a fight of the night defeat at UFC 169 against Abel Trujillo. Prior to his last two fight, he had won four of five including a TKO win at UFC 146 against Edson Barboza.

Krause (20-5) won his UFC debut last year when he defeated Sam Stout at UFC 161 and he won the fight of the night and submission of the night bonus. He returned at UFC Fight for the Troops 3 and was defeated by Bobby Green, which snapped a eight fight winning streak.
