The UFC 169 fight card kicked off with the preliminary card on Fight Pass and this portion of the card was featured by a middleweight bout as Ultimate Fighter 17 alum Clint Hester improved to 3-0 in the UFC with a decision win over Andy Enz.
Hester was able to score a knockdown early in the fight when he landed a leaping left hook. Enz would be able to get back to his feet but was obviously rocked. Hester would score another takedown in the round but Enz began to score with his strikes as the round came to an end.
Hester would continue to score with his punches in the second and third rounds as he out strike Enz in both rounds. Along with out landing Enz, Hester was able to score two takedowns in the fight and Enz was unable to land anything that could potentially end the fight.
All three judges scored the fight for Hester (10-3) and he is currently on a six fight winning streak. His previous four wins had come by TKO/KO and this is his second career win to come by decision.
Magomedov survives early submission and wins by decision
In a matchup of debuting UFC lightweights, Rashid Magomedov survived an early armbar submission and defeated Tony Martin by unanimous decision.
Martin was able to get the fight to the ground early in the first round and went for a kimura submission. He would transition to an armbar attempt and it looked like he was about to get a victory.However, Magomedov was able to get out of the submission attempt and keep the fight on the feet for the rest of the round.
Magomedov would be able to keep the fight on the feet in the second and third rounds as he stopped seven takedown attempts by Martin. He would begin to land kicks and busted up Martin’s face. With less than one minute left in the fight, the referee would pause the fight to have the cage side doctor look at the face of Martin.
The fight would continue and Magomedov (16-1) won the fight 29-28 on all three judges scorecards, and he has now won nine fights in a row.
Magny snaps two fight losing streak with decision
The opening bout of the UFC 169 preliminary card on Fight Pass was a welterweight bout as Ultimate Fighter 16 alum Neil Magny defeated Gasan Umalatov by decision.
Throughout the entire fight, Magny was able to use his reach and be the more active fighter. He would be able to stop seven of the nine takedown attempts by Umalatov. Also, he landed 81 more total strikes in the fight and would cruise to a decision victory.
Magny (9-3) is now 2-2 in the UFC and this was a must win situation for the TUF alum. If he was unable to get a victory, he would have probably been released by the UFC.
