UFC 170 Bonuses: Rousey, MacDonald, Maia, and Thompson earn $50,000

UFC 170 took place on Saturday night in Las Vegas and the fight night bonuses went to Ronda Rousey, Rory MacDonald, Demian Maia, and Stephen Thompson.UFC 170 Poster New

The bonuses were announced by UFC President Dana White at the post fight press conference, and each bonus is $50,000.

Rousey won one of the performance of the night bonuses as she successfully retained the UFC women’s bantamweight title with a first round TKO victory over Sara McMann.

She improved to 9-0 in her career with the victory and this is the first time that she has won a fight by TKO, as he previous eight wins were by submission. Also, this is the second straight fight that she has won a fight night bonus, as she won the fight and submission of the night bonus at UFC 168 against Miesha Tate.

The other performance of the night bonus went to Thompson for his first round victory over Robert Whittaker in the opening bout of the UFC 170 pay-per-view. Thompson dropped Whittaker with a straight right hand and finished the fight with strikes on the ground. He has now won three straight fights and this is the second time he has won a fight night bonus, as he previously won the knockout of the night bonus in his UFC debut in early 2012.

The fight of the night went to welterweights McDonald and Maia. In the opening round, Maia was able to get the fight to the ground and was able to keep the fight there for a majority of the round. However, MacDonald would be able to stop the takedown attempts of Maia in the final ten minutes of the fight and used effective striking to score the victory.
