The medical suspensions for UFC 170 have been released by the Nevada State Athletic Commission and five fighters on the card are facing potential suspensions of six months.
The commission released the medical suspensions on Monday and the suspensions were forwarded to TheMMAReport.com after they were requested.
UFC 170 took place this past Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Events Center and was headlined by Ronda Rousey stopping Sara McMann in the first round by TKO to retain the UFC women’s bantamweight title.
The fighters facing potential suspensions of six months are Rory MacDonald (right ankle), Stephen Thompson (right hand), Robert Whittaker (left forearm), Raphael Assuncao (left ribs), and Cody Gibson (right hand). All five fighters will need to get x-rayed and get doctors clearance to come off suspension or they are suspended six months.
The complete UFC 170 medical suspensions are below:
- Sara McMann: Suspended until 3/25/14 with no contact until 3/16/14
- Patrick Cummins: Suspended until 4/9/14 with no contact until 3/25/14
- Rory MacDonald: Must have right ankle x-rayed and doctors clearance or no contest until 8/22/14; Minimum suspension and no contest until 3/25/14 with no contact until 3/16/14
- Demian Maia: Suspended until 4/9/14 with no contact until 3/25/14
- TJ Waldburger: Suspended until 4/9/14 with no contact until 3/25/14
- Stephen Thompson: Must have right hand x-rayed and doctor’s clearance or no contest until 8/22/14
- Robert Whittaker: Must have left forearm cleared by a doctor or no contest until 8/22/14; Minimum suspension and no contest until 3/25/14 with no contact until 3/16/14
- Raphael Assuncao: Must have left ribs x-rayed and doctor’s clearance or no contest until 8/22/14; Minimum suspension and no contest until 3/25/14 with contact until 3/16/14
- Pedro Munhoz: Suspended until 3/25/14 with no contact until 3/16/14
- Aljamain Sterling: Must have follow-up MRI of head with gradient echo or susceptibility weighted imaging within 1 week after this fight or before 3/1/14
- Cody Gibson: Must have right hand x-rayed and needs orthopedic doctor’s clearance or no contest until 8/22/14
- Rafaello Oliveira: Suspended until 4/9/14 with no contact until 3/25/14 (contusion under right eye)
