Attila Vegh: I’m the real and only Bellator light heavyweight champion

Tomorrow night at Bellator 113 will mark the first time in 386 days that Attila Vegh will step into the cage as he will meet Emanuel Newton to unify the Bellator light heavyweight title. Attila Vegh

This will be the second time that Vegh will meet Newton as their first meeting came in the semifinals of the 2012 Summer Series tournament as Vegh won by split decision.

Since their first meeting, Vegh went on to win that tournament and defeated Christian M’Pumbu at Bellator 91 to become the second ever Bellator light heavyweight champion. Following the victory, he was greeted at the Slovakia airport by his family and friends and it was an amazing feeling for him.

“Being called the Bellator Light Heavyweight World Champion is a very good feeling for me. It’s my completed dream,” Vegh said.  However, just being champion is not enough for me. I can’t slow down for one second. I must defend my title as many times as possible.

The man that wants to slow him down is Newton, who won the interim Bellator title in November when he defeated Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal for a second time. While Newton as the title as “Interim Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion,” Vegh believes that he is the only true Bellator champion.

“In my opinion, Emanuel Newton should not be considered a champion at all,” Vegh said. “I’m the real and only Bellator light heavyweight champion of the world.”

Vegh is the only fighter in Bellator to hold a victory over Newton and both men are tied for the most wins in Bellator light heavyweight history with five. Just like in every rematch, the winner typically is the fighter who makes the best advices. For Vegh, he does not know how much Newton has changed but he does know that he will walk out of the cage tomorrow night as the undisputed light heavyweight champion.

“I don’t know if Emanuel has changed much since I beat him the first time but we will see in the fight. There’s no doubt in my mind that I will beat Emanuel Newton and defend my title. I beat him before and now I’m going to do it again.”
