The inaugural Bellator MMA pay-per-view that will be headlined by the trilogy bout between lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and Michael Chandler now has a date as it will take place on May 17th.
The date of the pay-per-view was announced during the Bellator 110 main card on Spike TV.
Alvarez (25-3) was defeated by Chandler in their first meeting in 2011 by submission to lost the Bellator lightweight title. After winning back to back fights, Alvarez had his rematch with Chandler and won a close split decision at Bellator 106 to regain the Bellator title.
“Like every fight, you are only as good as your last performance,” Alvarez said. “I always go out and try to put out the best performance possible, and that’s what I’m going to do May 17th. Mike and I have a long history together, and everyone knows what type of battles we’ve had, but I’m training in a manner that should end the fight quickly. I want a fast, quick fight that is going to keep me as Bellator Champion.”
Chandler (12-1) has the most wins in Bellator lightweight history with nine and he will be looking to regain the Bellator title. He is excited to be headlining the inaugural Bellator pay-per-view and he wants to avenge his only professional defeat.
“I’m excited to be headlining the first Bellator Pay-Per-View, and just excited to get back in there,” Chandler said. “I’m going to bring the fight like always, and I’m not going to leave any doubt that I’m one of the best lightweights in the world. Whenever you suffer your first loss, you want that chance to avenge that defeat, and I have that opportunity on May 17th.”
During the post fight press conference, TheMMAReport.com asked Bellator MMA Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney if there was a venue for the event and he stated an announcement on that will be in the next four to five days.
