A shoulder injury has forced Jake Shields to pull out of his World Series of Fighting 11 fight against Jon Fitch and the search for a new opponent for Fitch is underway.
The injury was first reported by MMAFighting.com and World Series of Fighting Executive Vice President and Matchmaker Ali Abel-Aziz confirmed on Twitter that it was a shoulder injury that forced Shields to pull out of the fight.
Shields (29-7-1, 1NC) was recently signed by the World Series of Fighting after he was released by the UFC. He is 3-3, 1NC in his last seven fights and is coming off a decision defeat to Hector Lombard at UFC 171. This is the second opponent that Fitch (25-6-1, 1NC) has been scheduled to face on this card as his previous opponent, welterweight champion Rousimar Palhares pulled out due to a family situation.
World Series of Fighting 11 is expected to take place on July 5th and a venue has not been announced at this time. TheMMAReport.com confirmed with the Florida Boxing Commission earlier this week that the World Series of Fighting has requested a July date with the commission, but the event has not been approved since the permit fee has not been paid.
