Josh Burkman vs. Jon Fitch III set as co-main event of WSOF 11

Following an injury to Jake Shields, Josh Burkman has agreed to replace Shields in the co-main event of World Series of Fighting 11 and face Jon Fitch for a third time. wsof-flat-color-outline

The fight booking was initially reported by MMA Fighting and was later confirmed by Burkman.

World Series of Fighting 11 is expected to take place on July 5th and will be headlined by Justin Gaethje making his first lightweight title defense against Nick Newell.

A location for the event has not been announced at this time but the TheMMAReport.com confirmed with the Florida Boxing Commission earlier this week that the World Series of Fighting has requested a July date with the commission. However, the event has not been approved since the permit fee has not been paid.

This is the third opponent that Fitch (25-6-1, 1NC) has been scheduled to face on this card. Fitch defeated Burkman back in 2006 by rear-naked choke in the UFC, but Burkman would win the rematch last year with a guillotine choke submission.

Burkman (27-10) was on the inaugural World Series of Fighting show in 2012 and has won four of this five fights in the organization. It was reported yesterday by Bleacher Report that Burkman has signed a new contract with the organization and this comes following a very public disagreement between the fighter and the organization.

The current World Series of Fighting 11: Gaethje vs. Newell fight card is below.

Justin Gaethje (11-0) vs. Nick Newell (11-0)
Josh Burkman (27-10) vs. Jon Fitch (25-6-1, 1NC)
Melvin Guillard (31-13-2, 2NC) vs. JZ Cavalcante (18-7-1, 2NC)
