The Daily Review: TUF Brazil 3, Bellator tournament finals announced

With the semifinals in full swing, the first two semifinals took place on this week’s episode of TUF Brazil 3. In the middleweight division, Warlley Alves (6-0) of Team Sonnen took on Wagner Gomes (3-0) of Team Silva, and in the heavyweight division, Marcos Rogerio (11-2-1) of Team Sonnen took on Antonio Carlos (3-0) of Team Silva.

The episode kicked off with all the fighters in the house pick the finalists in the ring card girl competition. After watching video packages of all the ring card girl hopefuls, the fighters take a vote on who they want to be the finalists. Hortencia and Isabel, the two female celebrity coaches on the shows, announce the winners who are Ana Cecilia and Fernanda Hernandes.

At the first Team Sonnen training session of the episode, Sonnen gave his fighters a speech on how actions are important and how it is important to keep your emotions in control.

To build up to the fight between Gomes and Alves, Wagner Gomes was shown talking about how moved his training to Rio de Janeiro to improve the level of coaching that he was getting and getting over a recent divorce.

Shortly after, the weigh-ins took place with UFC ring announcer Bruce Buffer introducing surprising the fighters and introducing the middleweights. Both fighters made weight.

Up next was the fight, and Warlley Alves was able to a secure a quick submission victory over Wagner Gomes. Defending a single-leg takedown attempt from Gomes, Alves locked on a guillotine choke and elicited a tap within the first minute of the fight. The victory put Alves in the middleweight final.

Later on was the heavyweight fight between Marcos Rogerio and Antonio Carlos, and like Alves, Carlos earned a spot in the finals with a first round submission victory. After the fighters traded shots on the feet and positions in the clinch, Carlos drug the fight to the ground, obtained Rogerio’s back and locked on a fight-concluding rear-naked choke.

1. Some of the top fights for Bellator 122, the second event of this year’s Summer Series, were announced yesterday by Bellator. The card, which will take place in Temecula, California on July 25th, received the additions of Season 10 Middleweight Tournament Final between Brett Cooper (20-9) and Brandon Halsey (6-0) and the Season 10 Welterweight Tournament Final between Andrey Koreshkov (16-1) and Adam McDonough (11-0).

2. The Brian Ortega (8-0)/Diego Brandao (18-9) fight is now off of the May 31st TUF Brazil 3 Finale card as Brandao was forced to withdraw because of an injury. Ortega will not be face a new opponent on that card.
