The second fight for the upcoming XFC 28 fight card in the fall has been announced as former Bellator fighter Dom O’Grady will meet Dave Couchaine.
The fight booking was announced by XFC officials on Thursday.
XFC 28 will come from the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida this fall at a date to be determined and will be headlined by a featherweight bout as Junior Assuncao meets Troy Gerhart.
O’Grady (16-6-1) was signed by the XFC last year and won his promotional debut by submission against Eric Reynolds at XFC 27. He has won three of his last four fights and two of those wins came in Bellator.
Courchaine (18-6) has won three in a row since losing his XFC debut last year against Luis Santos. He is coming off a victory against Abe Jacobs last month and his last two wins have come by stoppage in the first round.
“This fight is Main Event material; that’s how epic I feel this matchup will be. Both these guys are red-hot right now, coming off great wins at XFC 27,” XFC President John Prisco said. “Courchaine has been on a complete tear for over two years now and Dom is a savvy vet who stepped right into the XFC and cemented his place in the organization, with an impressive finish of Eric Reynolds.”
“Their styles are very different, but both are equally dangerous. Dave is intense and in your face, while O’Grady is laid back and methodical with his approach. Both these fighters have obvious strengths, but their strengths could also cost them the fight in this one. Will Dom be too laid back and get overwhelmed, or will Dave be too aggressive and get himself in a bad spot like Reynolds did? I don’t know, but I can’t wait to see how this one plays out. The winner of this fight will definitely deserve a shot at the title.”
