ONE FC 17: Era of Champions took place on Saturday from the Mata Elang International Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia and was headlined by Adriano Moraes submitting Kosuke Suzuki in the third round to secure his place in the inaugural ONE FC flyweight title fight.
As the fight opened, Moraes scored a takedown and Suzuki looked for a kimura submission on his back. Moraes would defend the submission attempt and he went for his own submission. Suzuki would survive the submission and got back to his feet.
The fight would end up back on the mat and once again, Suzuki got back to his feet. As he got back to his feet, Moraes landed a kick to his face and got the fight back to the ground. Once again, Moraes went for an arm triangle choke submission and time in the opening round would run out before he could get a finish.
Moraes would stick with his gameplan in the second round and would get the fight back to the ground. Suzuki would be able to scramble to get the back of Moraes against the fence, but Moraes did a slick transition to get the fight back to the ground in side control. The would continue their ground fight until the end of the round.
In the final round, Moraes would score another takedown as the round started and began to look for a submission. He would lock in the arm triangle choke and Suzuki would tap out to the submission. Moraes (11-1) has now won back to back fights since dropping his ONE FC debut and this is his fifth career win by submission.
Tirta remains unbeaten with submission win in 68 seconds
The co-main event of the fight card was a bantamweight bout as Fransino Tirta remained unbeaten as he submitted Sami Amin by submission in the first round.
Tirta was able to get a takedown around the one minute mark of the fight and immediately got on the back of Amin. Once on the back he landed several strikes before going for the rear-naked choke and Amin would tap out to the submission.
This was the first fight for Tirta (16-0-1) in nearly three years and this is his sixth career victory by submission. It also marks his first submission victory since 2005 as three of his previous four victories have come by TKO/KO.
Eustaquio secures flyweight title shot
Geje Eustaquio secured his title shot in the flyweight division as he defeated Kentaro Watanabe by unanimous decision on the main card. The entire fight would be on the feet as the fighters exchange punches and kicks for fifteen minutes.
In the opening minutes of the fight, Watanabe landed a combination that stunned Eustaquio but he would be unable to finish the fight as Eustaquio recovered quickly. They continued to exchange strikes and Watanabe stood on the outside and picked his spots.
During the second round, Eustaquio landed a kick to the groin of Watanabe and the fight would be paused. Watanabe would be given five minutes to recover and he would continue. As the fight was restarted, Watanabe came out with a flurry but Eustaquio would counter his strikes.
Eustaquio would land one of his biggest punches in the fight in the third round as he stunned Watanabe. However, he would be able to recover quickly and they would strike until the final bell sounded. All three judges would score the fight for Eustaquio (7-2) and he will now face Moraes for the ONE FC flyweight title.
