A day filled with UFC action ended in Sao Paulo, Brazil with Stipe Miocic making short work of late-replacement Fabio Maldonado in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3 Finale.
Within a minute, Miocic earned the victory by dropping Maldonado with a brutal right and tagging the Brazilian with a few more punches, until referee Mario Yamasaki called a halt to the action.
The victory improves Stipe Miocic’s (12-1) UFC record to 6-1.
Carlos becomes TUF Brazil 3 winner
Following three rounds of relatively one-sided action, Antonio Carlos Junior was announced the victor of both his fight with Vitor Miranda and the heavyweight bracket of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3.
Carlos used a steady mixture of aggressiveness on the feet and wrestling to edge out Miranda in each of the three rounds. As the fight wore, Carlos became more dependent on his grappling game.
This fight was the first time that Antonio Carlos (4-0) has ever fought professionally for more than one round.
Alves submits Alexandre in the third
A dominant performance capped by off by a third round guillotine choke paved the way for Warlley Alves to become the middleweight winner of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3.
In the first two rounds, Alves punished Alexandre with his powerful rights on the feet, and he would also implement his takedowns to control the bout. Alves obtained the finish after rocking Alexandre with a right and latching on a fight-concluding guillotine choke.
Warlley Alves (7-0) has now pieced together four consecutive finishes.
Maia outpoints Yakovlev
After losing two straight, Demian Maia was able to get back into the winners’ circle by decisively beating Alexander Yakovlev for three straight rounds to win a unanimous decision.
Maia looked comfortable on the feet – he was even able to drop the Russian in the first round with a left-right combo -, but it was Maia’s positional dominance on the ground that provided the criteria that he needed to win on all three of the judges’ scorecards.
Now, six of Demian Maia’s (19-6) UFC victories have now come by way of decision – matching his amount of promotional wins by way of submission.
