UFC Fight Night 43 Bonuses: Marquardt, Oliveira, Villante, and O’Connell earn $50k

UFC Fight Night 43 took place on Saturday at the Vector Arena in Auckland, New Zealand and the fight night bonuses went to Nate Marquardt, Charles Oliveira, Gian Villante, and Sean O’Connell. UFC Fight Night New Zealand

The bonuses were by UFC President Dana White on Twitter and each bonus is $50,000.

Marquardt won one of the two performance of the night bonuses for his first round submission victory over James Te Huna in the main event of the fight card. Marquardt submitted Te Huna in the final minute of the opening round with an armbar and the victory snapped a three fight losing streak. In addition, this is his first submission victory since 2008 when he defeated Jeremy Horn at UFC 81.

The other performance of the night bonus went to Oliveira, who also won by submission as he defeated Hatsu Hioki in the second round with a guillotine choke. A majority of the fight would be on the mat with both fighters looking for a submission. Oliveira would get the finish in the second round after he defended a submission attempt by Hioki and this is the first time that Hioki has been submitted in his career.

The fight of the night bonus went to the fighters in the first fight on the preliminary card as Villante scored a split decision victory over O’Connell. Both fighters would land 48 percent of their total strikes and O’Connell actually landed 45 more total strikes in the entire fight. However, two of the three judges scored the fight for Villante.
