UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo was scheduled to make his next title defense against Chad Mendes at UFC 176, but Aldo has suffered an injury and is out of the fight.
The news of Aldo’s injury was reported by Ariel Helwani on tonight’s edition of “UFC Tonight” on Fox Sports 1 and Helwani stated he was informed of the injury by UFC President Dana White.
The matchup between Aldo and Mendes was going to be a rematch of their 2012 bout which Aldo won by knockout with one second left in the opening round.
A new main event for UFC 176 is expected to be announced shortly by the UFC and it’s unknown if Mendes will remain on the card.
UFC 176 will come from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on August 2nd and the current fight card is below.
