Following his release from his Bellator contract earlier today, Eddie Alvarez has been signed by the UFC and he will meet Donald Cerrone in the co-main event of UFC 178.
UFC President Dana White announced the signing and the fight booking on Twitter.
Cerrone was already scheduled to be in the UFC 178 co-main event against Bobby Green and according to the UFC, Green will be moved to a later card.
UFC 178 will come from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on September 27th and will be headlined by Demetrious Johnson defending the UFC flyweight title against Chris Cariaso.
Alvarez (25-3) has won three fights in a row, including a split decision victory over Michael Chandler at Bellator 106. While in Bellator, he went 9-1 and scored notable victories over Pat Curran, Shinya Aoki, and Patricky Pitbull. Cerrone (24-6, 1NC) is currently on a four fight winning streak and he is coming off a win against Jim Miller at UFC Fight Night 45. During his winning streak, he has won a fight night bonus in each bout and all four wins have come by stoppage.
