Ultimate Fighter 19 alum Mike King has been suspended nine months by the UFC following the middleweight fighter testing positive for a banned substance after his fight against Cathal Pendred at UFC Fight Night 46 last month.
King tested positive for the anabolic steroid nandrolone and the UFC released a statement on Wednesday afternoon on the positive drug test result.
“UFC middleweight Mike King tested positive for nandrolone following his bout against Cathal Pendred at UFC Fight Night Dublin: McGregor vs. Brandao on July 19, 2014,” the UFC statement said. “He was informed that his positive test violated the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy and Promotional Agreement with Zuffa, LLC. The UFC has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance-enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents by our athletes. He agreed to serve a 9-month suspension retroactive to the event and must pass a drug test before receiving clearance to compete again. He will forfeit his $50,000 Fight of the Night bonus.”
Following the announcement of the positive drug test, King released a statement to MMAFighting.com and stated that he has been released from his contract with the UFC. He apologized to the UFC and Pendred for his actions and is not making an excuses for testing positive.
