Two fights announced for UFC Fight Night 54

The UFC Fight Night 54 fight card has added two new fights as Raphael Assuncao will meet Bryan Caraway in a bantamweight bout and Paige VanZant faces Kailin Curran in a women’s strawweight bout.

Both fight bookings were announced by the UFC on Wednesday morning.

UFC Fight Night 54 will come from the Halifax Metro Centre in October 4th and will be headlined by a welterweight bout as Rory MacDonald faces former Strikeforce champion Tarec Saffiedine.

Assuncao (22-4) has won six fights in a row, including a split decision victory against current bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw. Three of his last four wins have come by decision and he is coming off a win against Pedro Munhoz at UFC 170. Caraway (19-6) is an alum of The Ultimate Fighter and has won four of his five fights in the promotion. Currently, he has won back to back fights and both of those wins are by submission.

VanZant (3-1) made her professional debut in 2012 an her last fight came in April of last year as she submitted Courtney Hines. Her only professional defeat came in Invicta as she lost a decision to Tecia Torres. Curran (3-0) has won all of her professional fights by decision and her most recent win came in February against Yoo Jin Jung. She trains at Reign Training Center in California and she is the first female Hawaiian fighter to be signed by UFC.
