Frodo Khasbulaev has not been seen in the Bellator cage since April of last year when he defeated Mike Richman to win the season eight featherweight tournament.
The fighter has been unable to obtain a work visa to enter the United States and recently asked Bellator to release him from his contract.
Two weeks have passed since Khasbulaev asked for his release from his Bellator contract and Bellator President Scott Coker gave TheMMAReport.com an update on Khasbulaev.
“Trying to work on his visa actually. We are running into some obstacles with the visa issues with the legal team but we are trying to overcome some of those obstacles and we will have an update, maybe in a few weeks.”
If Bellator is able to get Khasbulaev a visa and get him into the United States, he would be in line for a title shot in the featherweight division. Currently, he is one of two featherweight tournament winners waiting for a title shot and former champion Daniel Straus is expected to receive a title shot if he defeats Justin Wilcox next month.
