Following a successful UFC debut, Gilbert Burns is dropping down to the lightweight division and he will meet promotional newcomer Christos Giagos at UFC 179 in Brazil.
The fight booking was officially announced by the UFC on Wednesday afternoon.
UFC 179 will come from the Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on October 25th and will be headlined by Jose Aldo defending the UFC featherweight title against Chad Mendes.
Burns (8-0) defeated Andreas Stahl at UFC on FOX 12 by decision in his promotional debut and it was the first time he went the distance. All of his previous victories came by stoppage in the first round and four of those wins were by submission.
Giagos (10-2) comes to the UFC after being the lightweight champion in RFA. He is currently on a four fight winning streak and won the RFA title with a stoppage victory last month against Dakota Cochrane.
