Wanderlei Silva run from a drug test in May and today he received a lifetime ban (indefinite suspension) and a fine of $70,000 from the Nevada Athletic Commission for skipping out on the drug test.
The suspension and fine were handed down at the monthly commission meeting and Silva was not in attendance as he was represented by his attorney Ross Goodman.
The hearing began by Goodman attempting to get the motion dismissed due to his argument that the commission did not have jurisdiction. The motion to dismiss would be denied and the commission went into a disciplinary hearing for Silva.
During the disciplinary hearing, the commissioners ask why Silva elected to not attend the meeting in person or on the phone. Goodman told all of the commissioners that his client was in Brazil and would not be able to attend. The commissioners would end up passing a motion for a lifetime ban and a fine of $70,000. If Silva does not pay the fine, the state of Nevada will use a collection agency to get the fine.
Following the decision by the commission, Silva decided to give his thoughts on Twitter.
“Those who are trying to take me down, come get it,” Silva tweeted. “War is just beginning, sons of b—–s. They will see that we’re the ones who run this s–t, bunch of playboys.”
Goodman is expected to file an appeal on this decision and this could be tied up in the courts for several months.
