The UFC is returning to Sweden on January 24th for UFC on FOX 14 and the event will be headlined by a key light heavyweight bout as former title challenger Alexander Gustafsson meets Anthony Johnson.
UFC President Dana White announced the fight booking on Wednesday morning.
The event will come from the Tele 2 Arena in Stockholm and the main card will air live in the United States at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Fox.
Gustafsson (16-2) was scheduled to face light heavyweight champion Jon Jones in September in a rematch, but an injury forced him out of the fight and Jones will now be defending the title against Daniel Cormier on January 3rd at UFC 183.
“This is going to be an epic event,” Gustafsson said in a press release issued by the UFC. “I want more than 30,000 fans to come and witness me win on January 24. Then I’m going to go and get the title! My journey back to the top starts now. ”
Johnson (18-4) was recently taken off suspension by the UFC for a legal issue and is currently on an eight fight winning streak, with two of those wins coming in the UFC.
“This fight might be on his home turf, but I’m ready to go over to Sweden and prove that I’m the next in the line for the UFC light heavyweight title,” Johnson said in the same press release. “I’m not intimidated by fighting in front of Alex’s hometown fans. I’m going to go in there and look for the knockout like I do in all of my fights. I can’t wait for this!”
Tickets for the historic UFC on FOX 14: Gustafsson vs. Johnson will be available to the general public on Friday, Nov. 28 via AXS.com/UFC. Fans can guarantee their seat by booking an Official UFC VIP Experience starting this Friday, Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. GMT via UFC VIP or Tailor Events.
