This year has been an interesting ride for featherweight Desmond Green as he was a finalist in the Bellator season ten tournament, released by Bellator, and is now set to face Steven Siler for the vacant Titan FC featherweight title in two weeks.
Following his release from Bellator, Green (13-3) made a splash with Titan FC as he defeated former WEC champion Miguel Torres in 46 seconds in the main event of Titan FC 31 on Halloween night.
It was his first knockout victory in nearly one year as his previous knockout win came at Bellator 105 against Angelo Sanchez and it marked his first career victory in the opening round.
Right after the victory, Titan FC CEO Jeff Aronson came into the cage to offer Green a title fight against Steven Siler, which Green immediately accepted. Due to immediately accepting the title fight, Green has not been able to enjoy his highlight reel victory over Torres.
“I really have not gotten to enjoy winning that fight yet,” Green told The MMA Report. “The knockout or anything because right after, Jeff came into the cage and offered me that title fight. Immediately, all my attention began to focus on this next fight. It’s kind of funny, since I first started my career, I take a lot of fights and I am always fighting.”
“Literally, in two years I have developed a 14-3 record. I am always on the move. My friends and family always tell me how good I am doing and how proud they are. I am always looking at the next moment and I am actually looking forward to this. Hopefully I will have a little bit of a break after this fight. I am going to finish him and probably will not be fighting for a couple of months with Christmas coming up.”
Initially, Green and Siler were scheduled to meet on November 20th, but Titan FC officials delayed the card for one month. According to Green, it would have been better for Siler if this fight took place last month.
“His best bet would have been to take on me as soon as possible,” Green said. “Like I have been saying, the more time I get to spend up here at Tri-Star with these guys, the better I am going to get. I was ready to fight on [November] 20th but I was happy it got pushed back because it gave me more time to train up here.”
While the victory over Torres was a great performance for Green, he feels that he did not get to portray everything he wanted to after working at Tri-Star for seven weeks. With this being a scheduled five round fight, he will likely get to show off more of his new tools and will once again be looking for an early stoppage victory.
“I was only out there for 46 seconds,” he said. “I have a lot more behind my sleeves for this fight. People are going to see with this next fight we have scheduled for five rounds so if it goes all five great, I will get to show my skills off. I have a feeling, he is hungry and I am hungry. I am going to finish him early.”
