Pat Curran vs. Daniel Weichel announced as co-main event of Bellator 133

Former Bellator featherweight champion Pat Curran will return at Bellator 133 as he will meet Daniel Weichel in the co-main event of the February 13th fight card.

Bellator MMA President Scott Coker announced the fight booking on ESPN’s MMA Live and in addition to this fight, Coker also announced this card will see Julia Budd vs. Talia Nogueira in a women’s featherweight bout.

Bellator 134 will come from the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California and will be headlined by a middleweight bout as former Bellator champion Alexander Shlemenko meets Melvin Manhoef.

Curran (20-6) is a two-time Bellator featherweight champion and lost the title in September to Patricio Pitbull at Bellator 123. He is 1-2 in his last three fights and both of those defeats have come by decision. Weichel (34-8) is currently on a six fight winning streak and won the season ten featherweight tournament earlier this year. In his career, he has 21 victories by submissions and two of his three wins in Bellator have come by submission.

“I get more and more excited every time I discuss this card,” Coker said. “With Curran and Weichel, you know you’re going to get a championship-caliber fight, and I’m looking forward to seeing another former Strikeforce fighter in Julia Budd test herself against a very dangerous Talita Nogueira.”

  1. What do you think about them trying to take away the tournament winners title shots by giving them to the fighters Bellator wants to win/ be champ??

  2. I knew this fight would be announced for co- main for 133 card. I just thought it would’ve been announced sooner.

  3. Are you surprised on Bellator releasing Blagoi Ivanov and do you agree with it? Also do you know the reason why he was cut? I’m not really that shocked bc Bellator releases good fighters all the time and keep guys who suck with horrible records. Blagoi was 6-1 (BMMA) and 11-1 overall. These releases are ridiculous.. Don’t they wanna succeed? Scott always says putting on fights fans wanna see and having top fighters in Bellator. He was a top guy for them.

    1. Also there were some good fights for him in Bellator. Kongo, Dieckmann, Minakov, Butler, Ayala, ect. Maybe even Lashley too. Where do you see him ending up next? I think Titan or WSOF. Wouldn’t be surprised if we see him in the UFC one day.

      1. Why aren’t you surprised about the release of Ivanov? He was a top hw outside of the UFC in my opinion. He beat Fedor in Sambo. I always love watching his fights.

  4. Did you see the MMA Hour awards show? Their picks are horrible. They also said last yrs Melendez vs Sanchez wasn’t even foty worthy. Wow, how can you say that. I thought that fight was the foty last yr. Hbu? The MMA Hour awards show is BS. Fans should always choose who wins. What did you think was the event of the yr 2014? My top 15 events of the yr are: UFC 181, 171, 178, 175, Fight Night 40, 45, 50, 55, Bellator 123, 120, 116, 122, WSOF 10, One FC 19, 23! Also when will the next MMA Insiders episode be put up?

    1. Bellator 131 was also event of the yr on my list. Mostly bc it felt like an event. That stage/ entrances were great.

  6. How many buys do you think Lesnar vs Lashley would do if it was on PPV and how many viewers would it do if it was on Spike TV?

    1. First off, this is all speculation because if Lesnar comes back to MMA, it will be to the UFC. In terms of what could it do, over 2 million on Spike and PPV, all depends on when the fight would take place (time of year, other TV competition) and price point.

      1. I don’t think he’s coming back. But you’re right. If he’s coming back it’ll be the UFC. I was just saying If that fight ever happened how much would it do. I think on Spike it would do over 4 mil viewers. I can’t believe you think only over 2 mil. And I think it would peak at 5.7 mil. Fedor vs Rogers did 4 mil/ peak at 5.4 mil. I also think PPV buys would be 175k-230k. maybe even more idk. Gate would be easily over 1 mil/ 2 mil.

        4. So if that did 2.6 mil veiwers then Lesnar vs Lashley would prolly be the highest rated live event on Spike TV. Too bad it’s never gonna happen tho.

        6. MMA on television is much different now that when Fedor vs. Rogers happened, plus that was on CBS as I recall. Not as many fans watching MMA now as there was just a couple of years ago.

        7. You’re right. Back then it was so popular. Those were the good old days. But do you think Bellator will be on CBS next yr? Viacom owns it. Maybe 1st they need to get good ratings on Spike, then they’ll prolly do CBS.

        12. I think one day they’ll be on CBS. It’s gonna be a three way bidding war for Lesnar. WWE/ UFC/ Bellator. What do you think Bellator has to offer Lesnar to convince him to jump ship with them. The other comment I made that had no name was me.         16. And you mean 360 deal like Viacom offered Rampage? We all know how that worked out lol. Btw Rampage said he wants to fight again and had a pic of his old UFC days on Instagram in the post. I think he’s headed back to the UFC. Hbu?

        17. Correct on 360 deal. On Rampage, Bellator would have to release him and I do not see that happening

        18. Did you see my comments on the UFC lawsuit and will you respond to them when you can? Also all of Bellator’s shows next yr will be on Spike TV correct, no PPV planned? How about WSOF? they have plans for one fall of next yr I think. I think it’s a really bad idea.

        19. I made my comments on the lawsuit on last night’s show with Caplan. I need to talk to a lawyer before adding any more comments.

          The plan is for all of the 2015 Bellator events to be on Spike TV and I am not aware of a show on NBC or PPV in 2015 for WSOF.

        22. Well they better make him happy real soon then or else he might be on his way out. Also I expect Wandy to be one of the fighters in the lawsuit. Wandy said he was gonna make 10k for 2 hrs of signing at Bellator fan fest event. But UFC threatened to sue him if he did. I think he could’ve still been at the event bc Bellator isn’t competition to them.

        23. Just remember, Wanderlei Silva has a promotional contract with the UFC. He has not been released from that deal

        24. Ik Jason, but I meant he still could’ve appeared at the 131 event bc current UFC fighters have been at Bellator shows since Coker’s been in charge. Also UFC on fox 13 final number is 2.8 mil, not 2.27 mil, right?

        25. Here is the difference, Wanderlei’s appearance was being promoted. Bellator did not promote that UFC fighters would be in the crowd at a show.

  7. Did they talk about all these MMA promotions for ex: WSOF, Titan, Invicta, Legacy, Cage Warriors, RFA, ect working with the UFC and be feeders to them on the conference call? I didn’t hear it yet. The whole MMA media is on the UFC’s side bc they get paid by them lol. Esp Ariel Hawani.. Can’t stand that highkick…

    1. Helwani* I’ve been saying the UFC is corrupt for yrs. They are 4sure a monopoly. That’s one of the main reasons why I hate them bc they kill all the competition. I think they pay all the other promotions to be feeders and 4sure they pay the media..

  8. Sam Caplan said he thinks Lesnar vs Lashley would do over 600k buys if it were on PPV. I think maybe it could, but the reason why I said 175-230k is bc it’s Bellator, not the UFC. Now thinking of that I think it would prolly be 330k- 450 maybe. You should’ve asked him how much Viewers he thinks it would do on Spike. He’d prolly say 7/ 8 mil lol. I think it’d do over 4 mil with peak of about 6 mil. Ppl forget how huge of a draw Lesnar was and is. Biggest draw in UFC history. They won’t admit it bc he’s not with them anymore. Did you see his views on youtube it’s insane. Not just him, alot of pro wrestlers are so damn popular. Pro Wrestling is main stream and it’s not even a sport. UFC isn’t even main stream even after 21 yrs. I’m not trying to kiss WWE’s butt, I’m just telling the facts. I don’t even watch wrestling anymore. So many MMA fans hate it esp UFC fans bc they can’t believe it’s more popular than MMA and how many ppl watch it. They always say it’s fake, but alot of things are fake: movies, tv shows, most reality shows, ppl, ect..
