Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal is moving up to the heavyweight division and will meet Cheick Kongo at Bellator 134 next month in Connecticut.B107 9 Cheick Kongo vs Peter Graham590

Bellator MMA President Scott Coker announced the fight booking during Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour on MMA Fighting.

Bellator 134 will come from the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut and will be headlined by Emanuel Newton defending the Bellator light heavyweight title against Liam McGeary.

Kongo (22-9-2) is coming off a win against Lavar Johnson in September and has won four of his five fights in Bellator. Three of his four wins in Bellator have come by stoppage and his submission win against Johnson was his first submission since 2010 in UFC.

Lawal (14-4, 1NC) has won back to back fights and this will be his first heavyweight bout since 2009 when he defeated Mike Whitehead in Strikeforce. His most recent win came in November as he defeated Joe Vedepo and his last two wins have come by TKO.

  3. I also think that Scott was told by the UFC to sign a document where he can’t never say anything negative about them. Only praise them bc I’ve heard Luke Thomas and you say that he didn’t get along with them at all. They also had him sign a no compete clause and he can’t do an event at the HP Pavilion until March this yr. UFC/ Dana/ tortillas hates competition more than anyone on the planet..

    1. Once the bout agreements are signed, the fight will be announced. The name that is out there is the targeted fight. If you follow my Twitter, I tweeted about it.

  8. I’m listening to the Luke Thomas live chat and he says McGregor is an elite fight. Also he was kissing UFC/ McGregor’s ass so much. To me he’s not legit just yet. He beat one guy in the top ten. Siver isn’t top ten. To UFC he is, but that’s a bunch of bullshit I think. Also every week he says Bellator isn’t even close to competition to the UFC, but yet they signed Punk/ Cro Cop to keep them from signing with Bellator. Also counter programmed them same place too. I heard him also say that Everlast is sponsoring the UFC now. I was right see and you didn’t believe me haha. I think that they will supply the power lock gloves for them too. Monster might be next.

      1. And UFC is signing so many former Bellator fighters. There are more former Bellator fighters in the UFC than former UFC fighters in Bellator and that is a fact. I did my research. I keep up with all the signings/ cuts/ re-signings.

        1. Of course that is the case. UFC has nearly 600 fighters under contract and Bellator is around 120.

    2. I agree with Luke, Conor McGregor is an elite fighter. In terms of Bellator being competition to the UFC, here is the analogy I will use. UFC is at the top of the mountain and Bellator is at the bottom trying to work it’s way up.

      1. I would say Bellator is in the middle. I think UFC doesn’t see Bellator as competition, but they see Viacom as the real threat.

    3. They also blocked Bellator from going to the Honda Center. They wouldn’t do all those things if they didn’t see them as competition. As long as Viacom is backing them and they’re on Spike TV they are competition to the UFC and there only in MMA.

      2. The Honda Center made a business decision. They would rather have the UFC come to their venue than Bellator, which I do not blame them.

    1. If Bellator and Viacom plan to fight that there is not a breach of contract, they will need to file an injunction to stop him from fighting in UFC.

  10. Do you think that Scott Coker signs Carano/ Cyborg/ Hershall Walker/ Kharitonov/ Lesnar this yr or at least make serious offfers to them? I said Walker bc you know Scott loves freak show fights lol.

    1. I do not think Carano will fight because of her movie career. Cyborg is working on a deal with UFC, per Lorenzo Fertitta. Sergei Kharitonov is pricing himself out of the market. He wants more money than anyone wants to pay him. If he were to come to a United States promotion, he has to lower his asking price because no one will pay him what he wants. I doubt anything would happen with Walker. I would say that ship has sailed.

      Lesnar is the most likely, but I think the cost will be too much for Viacom to take that risk.

      1. They’d make a ton of money with Lesnar. They should take that risk. If I was them I would give him an amazing deal that UFC will not match.

  11. Everywhere I read oh this is such a surprise bc they went up against the AFC championship game. No they didn’t. The game ended when the main card started. And the game was a blow out anyway.

      1. They were talking about the MAIN CARD.. Plus the prelims went up against the AFC title game, but it was a blow out that’s why it did 908k. The FN 59 main card went up against no competition.

  14. Come to think of it if TNA can be in business this long why can’t Bellator. Ik bc UFC will do everything in their power to make Bellator disappear like they have all the other MMA promotions. I ? how long they’ll be around and if Viacom will give up on Bellator. If I was them I wouldn’t sell it to the UFC. I’d
    sell it to someone else. I think WSOF/ Titan are both gonna fold this yr. Bellator also have hurt themselves by making questionable/ stupid decisions. It’s gonna be hard for anyone to succeed in MMA like the UFC have.

  16. I was reading some comments on what ppl thinked of Kongo vs Mo. Ppl were bashing Bellator like usual saying leftovers fighting championship and UFC rejects. LMFAO do they think 600 fighters that are in the are UFC home grown? Most of them have came from other multiple organizations. Also ppl don’t undesrtand that Bellator signs these guys to get ratings. Everybody is talking shit about the Kimbo signing. But Bellator/ Spike TV doesn’t care they’ll make a ton of money/ have big ratings. That’s why they should offer Brock a ton of money and maybe a hunting show on CMT too.

    1. The man that could save Bellator isn’t Scott Coker it’s Brock Lesnar. He could make them a legit competitor to the UFC I think.

  17. Tapology has Brock Lesnar as 40th all time greatest grappler and 58th all time greatest fighter. WTF that’s ridiculous. I’d say he’s top 5 all time grappler and 25th GOAT. It’s insane the places these fighters are ranked.
