The co-main event of UFC 188 on June 13 in Mexico City is now official as former Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez will meet former Bellator champion Eddie Alvarez.
The fight booking was announced by the UFC on Monday afternoon.
UFC 188 will come from the Mexico City Arena and will be headlined by a heavyweight title unification bout as Cain Velasquez meets Fabricio Werdum.
Melendez (22-4) has dropped two of his three fights since entering the UFC in 2013 and both of the defeats came in title fights. This will be his first fight since December as he was stopped in the second round by current UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis.
Alvarez (25-4) signed with the UFC last year and lost his promotional debut against Donald Cerrone at UFC 178 by unanimous decision. The defeat snapped a two fight winning streak and he is 10-2 in his last twelve fights.

Cain Velasquez (13-1) vs. Fabricio Werdum (19-5-1)
