The scheduled lightweight bout between Mukai Maromo and Jose Rodriguez has been scratched from tonight’s World Series of Fighting 18 fight card following Rodriguez missing weight yesterday.
The fight cancellation was confirmed to The MMA Report on Thursday morning by a World Series of Fighting official.
Rodriguez missed weight yesterday by 4.5 pounds, while Maromo made weight. According to a Facebook post by Rodriguez’s trainer Troy Scheer, the commission gave his fighter two options. He would be given addition time to make the lightweight limit of 156 pounds or he would be fined 20 percent of his purse for missing weight.
He chose to take the fine and Maromo had to decide if he was willing to accept the fight as a catchweight. Scheer continue to write that Maromo initially agreed to a catchweight bout. However, Maromo decided three hours later that he would not take a catchweight bout against Rodriguez.
With Maromo-Rodriguez being off tonight’s fight card, the event will go forward with eight fights and the fight card lineup is below.
