The WSOF welterweight title will be on the line in the main event of WSOF 22 on August 1st in Las Vegas as champion Rouismar Palhares will be challenged by former Strikeforce champion Jake Shields.
The fight booking was confirmed by WSOF President Ray Sefo to MMA Junkie and the promotion’s request for the August 1st date in Las Vegas is on today’s Nevada State Athletic Commission monthly meeting.
Palhares (17-6) became the WSOF welterweight champion last year when he defeated Steve Carl by submission in his WSOF debut. He made his first title defense at the end of last year as he only needed 90 seconds to defeat Jon Fitch. Shields (31-7-1, 1NC) also made his WSOF debut and has gone 2-0 in the promotion. Both of his wins have come by submission and his most recent win came in January against Brian Foster.
WSOF 22 will come from the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on August 1st and the event will air live on NBCSN.
