WSOF removes Melvin Guillard from Friday’s event; Nick Newell vs. Joe Condon elevated to co-main event slot

Melvin Guillard has been pulled from Friday’s WSOF 20 due to failing to submit medicals and the new co-main event of the fight card will be a lightweight bout between Nick Newell and Joe Condon.WSOF 20

WSOF President Ray Sefo confirmed the fight change to MMA Junkie today and Guillard’s original opponent Ozzy Dugulubgov will now meet Lucas Montoya.

WSOF 20 will come from the Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut and will be headlined by middleweight champion David Branch moving up to the light heavyweight division to meet Ronny Markes in a semifinal bout in the promotions 205 pound tournament to crown the inaugural champion.

“Obviously, we would have liked to have seen Melvin compete at this weekend’s event,” WSOF President Ray Sefo said in a statement to MMA Junkie on Guillard being removed from the fight card. “But it’s Monday, four days away from the fight, and we don’t have his medicals, nor have we heard from him. He has not responded to any of requests from our PR team to help promote the show, and we alerted his management team that if we did not receive his medicals by 10 a.m. today, we would have no choice but to pull him from the card, and unfortunately, that’s what we’ve been forced to do.”
