Daniel Cormier set to defend light heavyweight title against Alexander Gustafsson

While the date has not been confirmed at this time, newly crowned light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier knows his next opponent as he will meet former title challenger Alexander Gustafsson later this year.

The UFC confirmed the matchup on Wednesday evening.

Cormier (16-1) defeated Anthony Johnson in the main event of UFC 187 to win the vacant UFC light heavyweight title. He submitted Johnson in the third round and his last two wins have come by submission.

Gustafsson (16-3) is coming off a knockout defeat at UFC on FOX 14 against Johnson. He is 1-2 in his last three fights and the only victory in his last three fights came against Jimi Manuwa.

The date of this title fight is expected to be announced shortly by the UFC.
