Desmond Green lost the Titan FC featherweight title in March as he lost a split decision against Kurt Holobaugh and once the fight concluded, “The Predator” felt he deserve an immediate rematch.
However, Andre Harrison is getting the next shot at the title and Green is not happy with being passed up for an immediate rematch with Holobaugh.
“I am not happy at all,” Green told The MMA Report about not getting the next title shot. “I definitely made it clear that I think I deserve the immediate rematch. I still feel strong in my heart and I am a fair guy. If I thought I lost — I will give it up to the guy if he the guy was better than me. If I got tapped out, I got tapped out but I genuinely feel in my heart that I won that fight.”
“I was the champion already and I lost a split decision in his hometown,” Green continued. “If being a champ and a split decision in his hometown, his backyard. If that does not grant me a rematch, I do not know what does. I am just focused on this fight ahead and really make a statement. Prove why I should be fighting for that title and when I do fight it again because he can only run for so long, I will make sure that everyone knows that belt should have not left my hands.”
When a fighter has a tough lost, some fighters will move past that and will only look at the future. However, Green still thinks about the fight with Holobaugh and it makes his blood boil when he thinks about hearing the cage announcer say “and new Titan FC featherweight champion” Kurt Holobaugh. Hearing that phrase over and over again is a big motivation heading into his next fight and he is also bringing in a new attitude into this fight due to that defeat.
“It’s one of the biggest motivations. I have not forget a single piece what happened that night,” Green explained. “To this day, I still wake up and have a day dream about hearing that decision and ‘the new.’ Just hearing those words makes my blood boil. Just looking at the fight, I out struck him and took him down more. Only thing he did better than me was move forward. When you are not landing, I do not see how that grants you a win, especially over the current champ. What I took from that is I could have done so much more in that fight to solidify my dominance. I am going to carry that same attitude of not leaving anything in the cage. I have taken that with me into this fight and until I retire.”
Green can take a huge step towards getting a shot at the Titan FC featherweight title on July 18 when he meets Vince Eazelle. The ultimate goal is to get the victory, the only thing that will impress Green in this fight is if he is able to defeat Eazelle by stoppage.
“Honestly, I am not being cocky or trying to sell tickets. The only thing that is going to impress me is if I finish this guy. People already know that I am the real deal and it’s very hard to beat me,” he said. “What I really want to do for myself, I want to show that killer instinct. All of my fights, I go out there and dominate but I do not have that killer closing instinct. I want to showcase that. I have had that instinct each of my losses because I fight with so much anger. I have to realize how to find that place without losing first. I am coming off a lost and I have a lot of anger built up. Of course, this fight I am going to come out guns blazing. Really, I need to focus with doing that fight after fight. I don’t ever want to leave it in the judges hands.”
