UFC 189 will take place next month at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and the referees for the title fights on the card will be Herb Dean and John McCarthy.
Nevada Athletic Commission Executive Director Bob Bennett recommended Dean and McCarthy as the referees during Thursday’s commission meeting.
The commissioners unanimously approved Dean as the referee for the featherweight title fight main event between champion Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor, while McCarthy will be the referee for the welterweight title fight between champion Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald.
Along with unanimously approving the referees for the title fights, the commissioners also unanimously approved the judges for both fights. The judges for the featherweight title will be Junichiro Kamijo, Chris Lee, and Marcos Rosales. For the welterweight title fight, the judges will be Adalaide Byrd, Derek Cleary, and Sal D’Amoto.
