For anyone who has seen Douglas Lima fight before, they would assume something was wrong with him after watching his fight against Andrey Koreshkov on Friday night.
Appearing sluggish and lethargic throughout, Lima was never really in the fight.
“There was a lot of wrong things that went in this camp,” Lima said about his performance. “I don’t want to go into details with that because I don’t want to take anything away from Koreshkov. He came in, he fought a good fight. I know I can do a lot better than that. I don’t know, it was just different. There was some stuff that went wrong. We’re gonna fix it and come back. It wasn’t me at 100 hundred percent in there.”
There were many rumblings that the now former champ came into the fight injured.
“I guess everybody trains with injuries in this sport that we do, it’s rough,” he said. “But yeah, there was some stuff going in this camp. Like I said, I never want to use that as an excuse.”
While dealing with whatever it was that was hampering him, Lima also had to deal with the unexpected wrestle-heavy game plan of Koreshkov.
“Yeah, a little bit surprised. You know, he came in here with a strong wrestling base. I’m just so disappointed that I got taken down like that. He fought a good fight. But I’m coming back for that belt.”
