Freddy Assuncao confirms torn ACL, surgery set to take place in the next week and a half

Freddy Assuncao returned to MMA competition last Saturday night at Titan FC 34 after being away from action since the beginning of 2014 and scored a submission victory over Cody Bollinger in a featherweight bout.

In his post fight interview with Joe Ferraro, Assuncao stated that he hurt his knee in the fight and was concerned that he may have torn his ACL in his right knee again.

Assuncao was hoping that it was just a sprain, but he has learned from his doctors that he suffered a torn ACL and surgery on his right knee will take place in less than two weeks.

The injury happened when he threw a leg kick at the 25 second mark of the opening round. He plans to be ready to be back in a training camp in six months and has his sights set on the Titan FC featherweight title.

“I was not impressed by the new champion,” Assuncao told The MMA Report. “He nothing more than a blanket. I’m way too rounded for him. Confident I’ll finish him or whoever has the belt.”
